    SOMETHING FISHY
In Monday's New York Times, postmodern academic Stanley Fish made the case for moral relativism in the post-Sept. 11 world. In today's FrontPage, I offer my response.

AND YOU THOUGHT LAST WEEK WAS UGLY ...
Last week, Ben "The Steel Curtain" Kepple predicted that despite missing two weeks of action, he could still win the Weinkopf.com football pool. "There are still 13 weeks to go in the season," he said, "which means I only need to out-do Coher by 2 games a week to catch up."

We laughed, we mocked, we rolled our eyes. But so far, Kepple's on schedule for his comeback. He scored seven wins, which for this week, is quite an accomplishment. That's two wins better than Dave "Lakewood Lancers" Coher, keeping him on pace for the greatest come-from-behind victory of all time.

Never mind that he's still 23 points out of first, and that he only has 17 points total. After this lousy week, the pool needs whatever drama it can get.

To think, we all thought last week was bad.

Even Ben, who, came out on top, only scored 7 out of 14. If this were a casino, he'd be leaving with a lighter wallet. The rest of us would be leaving without our shirts. Coher scored five, and then everyone else got four -- everyone, that is, except for Jason "VivaLas49ers" Hirschman, who scored a measly two.

Two weeks ago he was the one to watch. Last week, he was the one to pity.

Oh, let's be honest: We were all pitiable this week.

Back to the bigger picture, Kepple's ascent notwithstanding, Coher has cushioned his lead over fellow contenders by another game. He now stands five and six games ahead of Cris AKA "Hoboken Headhunters" and Steel Man Joe, respectively, in the cumulative totals.

He's the one to watch and the one to beat.

As for the rest of us, we can only hope that next week will be better.
