HOBOKEN HEATS UP Hobokoken Headhunters Cris rocked last week's Weinkopf.com Football Pool with an astonishing 11 wins -- the best single-week performance yet. She also regained possession of first place, thanks to Lakewood Lancers Dave's sub-par 6 points. The two continue to see-saw for first place, while the rest of us just watch, noses pressed firmly against the candy-store window. It's a coast to coast battle, SoCal sprawl vs. Jersey blight. The Girl from Hoboken maintains a narrow two-point lead, but the momentum is, for now, clearly going in her direction. Having claimed the top slot in the rankings and made the record books, she is clearly the new One To Watch. Also noteworthy was VivaLas49ers Jason's 9-point finish, which leapfrogs him into the third-place position long held by Steel Man Joe. SMJ faltered this week, and now falls to fourth place, tied with yours truly, who cashed in a respectable 8. (And who, I might add, has the most total wins over the last four weeks.) At the bottom of the pool was the aptly named Least Likely To Win, with 5, and Steel Drapery Benny, who once again failed to turn in his picks. (After all, there are so many other things to do in NH in November.) His boastful predictions get harder to fulfill with each passing week ... On the conventional wisdom front, once again, the game we all picked unanimously -- SF over Car by 7 -- we all got wrong. Cris outsmarted us all by picking the Falcons over the Packers, and Coher alone had the good sense to take the Vikes over the Jints. But Cris got burned as the only pooler to take Jacksonville over Pittsburgh, and the steel man must have been bent when he chose Dallas over Philly. And now another week awaits us, with the traditional Thanksgiving games featuring Dallas and Detroit (woo-hoo). Don't forget to get in them picks early. GORE STILL LOST; KUDOS TO TAMMY BRUCE Two new columns on to report: On FrontPage, I've got an examination of the Democrats' favorite conspiracy theory, which has been refuted yet again. It's time to start accepting reality, Dems: Your man lost. (Deep inside, aren't you glad he did?) And in the Daily News I've reviewed Tammy Bruce's The New Thought Police, an inside expose of PC totalitarianism. Enjoy. |
