BELATED FOOTBALL UPDATE Ho ho ho and season's greetings to all ye faithful Weinkopf.com Football Poolers. Please excuse the way belated update -- bringing about peace on earth and spreading good will to men have consumed most of my spare time. But now, to recap the pool's last two weeks' developments: The big story of the fortnight is Bob "Fourth and Ten" Smiley, the latecomer who missed most of the season. About five weeks ago, Bob turned in all of his picks for the rest of the season, and he's proven to be quite the clairvoyant. He has the highest cumulative total (20) of anyone in the last 2 weeks, and tied the single-week high of 11 this past week. All of this, mind you, without so much as seeing the lines. Either he's a genius, or luck plays a big part of this pool. What do you all think? Also noteworthy has been the end-of-the-season ascent of VivaLas49ersAlltheWayTotheBowl (note the quixotic name change) Jason with 19 wins in two weeks and ClevelandDawg Stacey (18). Their rise coupled with my mighty mighty demise (14) has bumped me down to 5th place, with them in 3rd and 4th respectively. First and second are, as always, owned by Lakewood Lancers Dave (14) and Hoboken Headhunters Cris (11). Lakewood has, in fact, regained a slim 1-point lead over Hoboken, but the two have see-sawed all year, and so there's no telling how this will end. But both have had relatively slow weeks, and so the whole contest has tightened up. Only four points now separate the first five poolers, meaning that the ultimate title is up for grabs. (I have no idea if the pool includes playoff games -- we'll have to wait and see.) The competition, though, is looking good. And how 'bout them Patriots?!? Lose in the first round, are you insane, Kenny? We are BOWL bound, jambalaya, I tell you. Who needs The Bus when you can take The A-Train? Happy New Year, everybody! --Chris, the Mighty Mighty Pats Fan |
