THE NUCLEAR OPTION Don't believe all hype about the White House's Nuclear Posture Review. As I discuss in today's FrontPage column, this is sound, practical policy for the post-Sept. 11 world. Think of it this way: Finally, an NPR conservatives can support! Tuesday, March 12, 2002
SCANDAL IN THE CHURCH Fr. Roger J. Landry of Fall River, Mass., has produced one of the best assessments of the sexual-abuse charges against the Catholic Church that I have read so far. Scandal, he observes, has been with the Church since the very beginning, starting with Judas' betrayal of Christ. Yet despite the many failings of men, the Church has persevered under the protection of the Holy Spirit. Christ has kept His promise -- the gates of Hell will never prevail over His Church, no matter how bleak circumstances may seem. In His goodness, God finds ways to deliver grace through even the most trying of times. Our current crisis in the Church is just such an occasion. Like many great scandals before it, Dr. Landry says, the latest scandal is a call to holiness. It is great saints who have restored the Church in the past, and Christ is calling for new saints to rise to the occasion today. YOU READ IT HERE FIRST For all the brouhaha about the Bush Administration's recently leaked Nuclear Posture Review, readers might remember a certain writer saying back in September that the U.S. would need to keep the nuclear option open. See my 9/16 column, Time To Slay the Beast. More on the NPR in tomorrow's FrontPage column. Stay tuned ... Monday, March 11, 2002
