WEINKOPF.COM FOOTBAL POOL WEEK 17 UPDATE: A MIGHTY, MIGHTY SEASON! YES, the victory of your's truly in the 2003 Weinkopf.com Football Pool is sure to elicit charges of fraud from some quarters, but lest anyone worry that the commissioner has special access to the Yahoo! system, one need only consult my pool performance in 2001 and 2002!
So it is only by some sort of miracle that the Mighty Mighty Pats Fan has managed to overtake Grogans Heroes' Kenny and claim this year's title. The One To Watch tag amazingly did its trick yet again! And the triumph of the Mighty Mighty Pats Fan can only mean good thing for the NFL's mighty mightiest team as it heads into the postseason.
Congrats and condolences are due not only to Kenny, but also "Go Lions ... No Really" Geoff, NinerInchNails Jason, and 2001 champ Jersey Girl Cris, who kept is close and competitive all season long.
FLIPPED A fitting booby prize, of sorts, goes to Flipper Lynne, who, like her beloved Dolphins, came up with too little too late this year. After an uncharacteristically slow season (Lynne came in last among those who got in all their picks), she took Week 17 -- a promising sign, no doubt, for next year's pool.
SUPERBATMAN, SUPERKID Congrats are also in order for SuperBatman Ebin, who not only cracked the top 10 overall, but bested fellow tykes "I Can Throw the Ball!" Mac and the Mighty Mighty Monniemoo Monica in the kids' division.
FAMILIAL FINALS So, how did it go in this year's pool's domestic disputes?
First, in the category of husband v. wife, Kelly "VV" bested Tim Nicely for Governor 9-7, while Kenny trumped Lone Star Lizzie Scagel 10-7. And in the clash of the couples, the Scagels killed the Nicelys, 13-4.
In the Brother vs. Brother contest, Yours truly laid the smack down on brother-in-law Unverified Groin Injury Bob, 10-6-1. Meanwhile, "Hail to the Redskins!" Scott Rubush eked past brother "Un Dia Normal" Matthew, 9-8.
QUESTIONS TO PONDER IN THE OFFSEASON: Will dethroned champ, WildStyle 75 Stacey, bounce back after a disappointing sixth-place finish?
Will Spurrier Fan Cris be forced to find a new name now that his favorite coach will be collecting unemployment?
And will the kids' pool be even bigger and more competitive than ever with the addition of Julia Nicely, Auggie Scagel, and hitherto unnamed and unborn additions to the Scagel and Weinkopf clans?
There's much to look forward to, as next year's pools will be, as usual, even bigger and more interesting than the one before. (New Year's resolution: I will update the pool more often in 2004!)
Till then, thanks, all, for playing. God bless and Happy New Year!
Yours, Chris, the Mighty Mighty Pats Fan
